I really want to.”
It seemed the world’s weight-loss experts were trying to stop people, mostly girls, starting pole dancing too early. “The last thing any body wants to do is get too fat at this point in their life,” says Kelly, who still runs a club in the UK.
“There is still a lot of stigma around this sport.”
But there is a good reason women are starting pole dancing too early, says Kelly.
“At the moment people who want to be pole dancers are more likely to do so if they are younger or are less developed. But if you look at the average age of a pole dancer that is 21 years old by the time you get to the competition, the average girl at that age is probably going to have started dancing by the age of 13.”
It could be time to ditch the age limit at one pole-dancing competition, says Kelly, and ask new pole-dancers to sign up for a competition that will give them access to more women.
“This is where the challenge lies,” she says. “At the moment young women are going to clubs which allow full access to all of their partners, and the women are going to be in their 20s and younger.
“If we can get younger girls to come out to the clubs and compete in these competitions and prove the viability of the sport, then that could really grow it across the country.”

Eight people have died and at least 60 police and army personnel have been wounded in an attack in a busy commercial district of Istanbul.
The blast happened on Sunday morning at the entrance of Taksim Square, just in front of the Turkish prime minister’s office.

The two men were detained over the attack, Turkish media reports add.
Four people are being held in Istanbul, a police source told Anadolu Agency.
