ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The RCMP say a Canadian who went on the run after being arrested in Haiti after a violent earthquake has died of his injuries.

A statement issued late Monday says Const. Dave Ross will be buried Monday. He was 44 when he died.

Authorities have asked the public to keep its distance as they search for the man, who was arrested Tuesday night at the Moncton International airport.

RCMP said officers saw Ross “displaying a large knife and then jumping to safety.”

Authorities say Ross was arrested after he was linked to eight people who died in the Haiti earthquake early on Tuesday, including eight Canadians.

A Canadian man has been charged with five counts of homicide and seven counts of aggravated assault for his alleged involvement in the deaths. Two Canadians remain in custody.

The man has been identified as a Canadian citizen.

Police began searching his apartment in Haiti after he disappeared Tuesday night.
