I want to feel good about my sketch.
The best way to learn how to sketch is to experiment.
Let’s say you want to make a map that would show which states are more or less prone to earthquakes, then sketch that to yourself.
Then look at the map and figure out which is more vulnerable and what should be done?
If you’re already familiar with the state and have a good grasp on the local characteristics of each place, let’s move on to some practical advice on how to draw a map.
3) Look at other maps where people have done that
Look around the web, blogs, magazines, etc to see if anyone has done it before.
Try searching online for someone similar to your area in the past or how to find similar areas using Google
You’ll immediately hear about maps like the one above which show the area in blue. You can check online to see if anyone has done something similar before.
Here’s an example where a map was done looking at the population density in the area
4) You must map the area
There’s no right or wrong way, but make sure that you map it.
This may seem obvious, but it bears repeating here since it’s not easy to see.
You can try some random online searches, but once you decide to get into the right field get comfortable with the computer program and look at all of the different areas around you.
As a starting point, start with the most urban areas first.
Checking the map in a city may feel a little too overwhelming to get a first impression. But, once you’ve decided on the areas, see if they have the properties you want.
5) Map the areas first
Once you feel comfortable finding some of the areas, start to draw them. You know they should be rectangular or rectangular with the smallest possible area in each. If you want a more detailed area, add a detail line to each point using the line editor.
If you need more information about a particular area try browsing online on Google maps.
When you’ve looked at a map there may be some areas that look like they haven’t been explored in quite some time.
There’s a common misconception that you want to find all new areas because you’ve never seen them before and are hoping that the area will give you some hints of what you could get away with.
