-No more than that, because every artist does it differently. If someone asked you to help a client, would you want to have an artistic background or be a creative? Of course not.
I’ve been asked this question before for my personal career path, but the answer was no. This is because I’m a visual learner, not a skilled one.
If you want to become a good artist, your skills start being learnt by accident in your early days. For example:
-You start trying something new and get better at it (drawing).
-You have a friend give you a sketchbook and you take it everywhere and start to do some sketches.
-Your friend does your sketches but you want to do them yourself.
-Eventually you start taking better pictures and you do your best.
-You notice that you are making good progress.
The only thing which needs to be mastered in order to draw is the understanding of the flow of the medium of the drawing.
You will want to create a specific visual language for this specific medium, a “flow” that you need to understand and be able to flow through in order to get your images to be strong.
This understanding comes naturally to all of us as long as we use the right tools and the right tools for the right job.
So, let’s assume we’re an artist using a computer and we want to learn to draw. The first and easiest thing to start doing is to start reading tutorials online. Here is my favorite tutorial about how to learn to draw:
I’m gonna give you some tips on how to draw. For the most part, these are the only tips I will impart to anyone who asks me for this, but as always I do my best to learn from everybody else’s work.
I prefer to learn by going through several tutorials over time. To accomplish this, you need to do this:
Find a tutorial you like. Pick one and work your way through it.
Try to be as thorough as possible. Take notes on things you like to do with the tutorial.
You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to understand what you read. You’ll also see that you need to work on these things in your own time, but you’ll feel way happier and more confident if you can get everything down.
