I think it’s pretty easy. I’m not doing it for the money, I’m doing it to learn to play. It’s not something I’m looking for, I’m just playing music for myself. I like to do it as much as I can for fun and learning music.
What was the hardest thing about recording your album?
The recording process was really painful. I was going through a lot of songs and stuff. We had a bunch of stuff that we weren’t really happy with or we still don’t really like. We tried to make it sound as good as possible. I was just really lucky, because I know my recording technique inside out, and when I first started experimenting with this, I’d been listening to other musicians—like, I listened to this guy who plays the violin, like, a lot. But then we became friends, so we made a playlist that was very similar to our own version. I ended up spending a lot of time going through the whole stuff; we were always at the studio playing, and I tried to get some of the vocals. I did some of it on my own. It’s been a fun experience.
How long did you write the new album?
I wrote it in three weeks. I was sitting down and writing, and the day went by like it normally does. It ended up taking three weeks. I was really happy with it, but I know it wasn’t in the same mood as the other ones. I kind of need to slow down the speed a bit here or there or something like that.
Is it a more progressive album than the other albums?
No, I’ve already learned a lot of parts on this record.
Anything you’ve learned on the new record?
I know how my voice sounds. I know the guitar technique. I’m learning more and more how to play all these parts. I’m also learning about music theory, how to learn scales and chords, things like that. It’s more advanced from the last record.
So it sounds like The World Needs Us is going to be more of a mellow record.
It’s certainly more mellow. The music is much darker and the lyrics are the same, but there is a lighter sense of humor in there as well. It’s a real lighthearted album.
The album title describes your perspective on things. What is that about?
The title of the album has a lot to
