Absolutely! We encourage you to have a basic knowledge of the instrument as well as basic skills (i.e. the ability to hold notes). The sooner you can play the instrument, even if only for two hours a day, the more you will get out of it.
Can I learn violin at home?
Yes. A lot of people want to learn violin at home, and that is often the easiest way to start. If you think you may be interested, click the “How do I start playing” tab above and then let us know how you are feeling.
Where can I go to learn violin?
The New York Stock Show is a great place to learn violin at. If you are thinking about learning violin at home, it is also the place to start. To learn violin at any of the several major violin competitions around the world, you will need to enter some sort of contest. If you are interested in attending the NWS New York Stock Show in November, check out the “Frequently Asked Questions” page.
If you do not have the time or budget to be a judge at a major violin competition in November, you could still compete at some smaller regional competitions. All competitions run by the Federation of New York State are open to amateur students, so you can still go to them as well.
There are also a number of events, workshops, performances, and free workshops. We encourage you to look at the New York State Federation of Clubs website to find information about all of these.
Are there lessons?
Yes, there are free lessons at the Stock Show and there are lots of them available to students of all skill levels.
We are happy to arrange for any of our students to take lessons as well. Visit the “How do I start playing” tab above to find out more.
Are there any concerts or special events?
Not really – we don’t usually organize any special events either.
Does the orchestra cover the expenses for the various schools?
Yes, we provide a range of programs for schools that bring their student musicians to the New York Stock Show.
