In a trifecta, two ingredients provide the final ingredient that completes the entire recipe. In fact, you must have two ingredients in order to get the recipe: a base for the food and a final ingredient for the recipe.

The base is your flour or oil. If you can’t find enough flour, you will probably want to make the recipe with something else. You can use any variety of flour, or you could also use wheatmeal in place of flour. Use whatever you have.

If you have one ingredient, or more than one, you don’t need to use them in every recipe, but if you want some special ingredients or have ingredients that aren’t readily available, use them. Make sure to substitute or adjust ingredients as you see fit to keep the recipes you create consistent.


1. In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients except for one. Add one of your flour or oil. Stir it into the water. This will give you that doughy feeling, known as gluten-free.

2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let rise. Use an instant-read thermometer to track the time. After 20 minutes, it will be finished.

3. When you are ready to start making the trifecta, add one of the ingredients into the dry ingredients. Using the same method as for the base, mix them all into one. After that, using a knife, cut down the middle to create a ring. Do that on all four of the layers. (It’s also important to trim any dough from on the bottom that you don’t want as an ingredient.)

4. Spread the dough ring out into a flat dish or whatever is handy. Put your cake on the ring, and make sure that it’s covered at all times. It should hang in the air and it must be kept airtight. You can place it in the fridge while you preheat the oven at the low or high setting.

5. Let your trifecta rise for 20 more minutes. Again, use a thermometer to track that time, but you might need to do that once a week. You’ll know that it’s done when your trifecta is light enough to slide off your counter and be taken up easily.

6. Remove one last piece of your trifecta from the refrigerator and let set. It will be nice and crisp and the texture is more dense and fluffy
